The central health and safety committee at Lund University

The health and safety committees act as advisory bodies to the employer at faculty and university-wide level. The health and safety committees consist of representatives of the employer and the employees who meet to discuss overarching work environment issues.

Lund University has health and safety committees at two levels:

  • Local health and safety committees at the faculty level
  • A central health and safety committee at the university-wide level

The role of the central health and safety committee in work environment management

As head of a public authority, the Vice-Chancellor has overall responsibility for the work environment at Lund University. The Vice-Chancellor, or an individual appointed by the Vice-Chancellor, acts as chair of the central health and safety committee. The pro vice-chancellor for communication, integrity and character has been the chair since January 2021.

The central health and safety committee is a collaborative body between the employer and the employee representatives in matters concerning the planning, implementation and follow-up of systematic work environment management within the University.

The central health and safety committee participates in the planning of work environment management and shall initiate and follow up on measures relating to the University’s work environment management based on the objectives laid out in the University’s Work Environment Policy.

The remit of the central health and safety committee is prescribed by law.
